Bonad with Three Panels

$ -- Sold --

Fragment of a larger Swedish bonad dated 1818 illustrating three bible stories.  In the upper left, two figures represent the unjust judge and the persistent widow.  On the right, Saul prepares to throw his spear at David to pin him to the wall.  The bottom panel shows Joseph in Egypt holding his staff of authority and three of his brothers kneeling to ask for grain.  The artist has framed each panel with draperies and abstract patterns.  A fascinating piece of Swedish folk art.  Tempera on homespun fabric, newly framed with archival materials.
