Transitional Swedish Rococo Secretary
Interesting rococo period secretary, Sweden circa 1790, in three parts. The bottom section has a beautifully curved front with three full width drawers on a shaped bracket base. The middle section has a smaller drawer under the slant-fronted writing desk with fitted interior. The upper library section has two fixed shelves, one shaped and notched, above two small drawers, all behind a pair of doors with vertically reeded raised panels. The cornice with its right angles, dentil molding and central swag show the influence of the new Gustavian style. Was this an attempt to give the piece a more up-to-date look?
