Mangle Board with Family Record
Nicely carved early mangle board, Sweden circa 1740. The stylized handle takes the shape of an elongated horse with incised detail. Under the horse’s head are the initials “EPS,” probably those of the carver. Beyond that is a series of initials and dates, each marking a significant event such as the birth of a child. At the end of the board is a simple pattern of six-petaled flowers and free-hand detail.
